Introduction

Aspen Heights Inc. held a series of focus groups interacting with students in the Syracuse area. My focus group session was with mostly with International students, who have come to Syracuse to attend Syracuse University. The focus group by Aspen Heights group was to understand the students’ needs and expectations residing in and around Syracuse

Aspen Heights Inc. held a focus group discussion with 16 students on 06th October 2016. The participants were asked to enter their name and ID number as part of the registration. Two representatives from Aspen Heights were part of the focus group, interacting with the students. Their prime purpose was to understand the needs and expectations of students living in Syracuse area.

The discussion was designed to gather information from the students in regard to the following points.

  1. What is the range of rent affordable by the students
  2. What are the basic facilities offered in the apartment or house
  3. How was the rental agreement and contract signed by the students
  4. Was there any transportation facility offered by the housing landlord from the airport to the residence in arrival of international students
  5. Factors that made the student to choose the particular apartment/house – location, safety, proximity to college
  6. Are students willing to pay extra if more facilities are provided

The following are the rough estimates of the count of students and from which country they had come from.

Among this group, there were 4 under-graduates and 12 graduate students.

The first and fore-most factor was the location of the property in a safe area. And this was the main criteria for selecting the house. Most of the students collected information from the alumni and previous year students from their respective countries. The second criterion was the distance from the college. Lesser the distance the more the rent.
