B2C vs B2B marketing differences

When it comes to B2B and B2C, they have the same essential values. These values pertain to the four Ps of marketing (product, price, promotion, and place). Yet, B2B and B2C use these values totally different in order to fit their marketing strategy. Neither B2B nor B2C address the same audience so they must be different in order to reach their targeted audience.

Many companies offer a variety of products and are driven in terms of their products and services. This type of marketing is usually known as product-based marketing and companies usually spend a great amount of time and money providing these products and services to customers. These types of companies consist of mostly offices supplies such as Offices Depot and Staples. This type of marketing aims more towards a B2C marketing since its main agenda is to meet individual needs.

The next marketing technique is customer-based and is mostly common with B2B sites. Businesses are usually more specific and need customized products and services. Most businesses ask more questions, do more research, and require more attention in order to fulfill their need. The customer-based sites are fairly more informative of products/ services and less flashy with products.

In order for B2B marketing to be successful it must: "be relationship driven; maximize the value of the relationship; have a focused target market; have a multi-step buying process, longer sales cycle; brand identity created on personal relationship; educational and awareness building activities; rational buying decision based on business value" (Murphy, 2006). The idea of B2B is to establish communication and educate, because you are not just dealing with one person but rather a group. Most communication will be conducted through email which is considered one form of email marketing. The email should have your contact information and contain information on feature benefits and prices. The key is content.

On the other hand B2C marketing must: "be product driven; maximize the value of the transaction; larger target market; single step buying process, short sales cycle; brand identity created through repetition and imagery, merchandising
