PERFORMANCES
Ballet Philippines can do anything and everything … and you can bear witness to it.
It's a fact; Ballet Philippines, one of the oldest ballet and contemporary dance company in the Philippines, has the widest dance repertoire in the country today. BP can do excerpts from internationally-acclaimed classical ballets such as Swan Lake and then turn around to do modern choreographies set to heart-tugging kundimans which never fail to strike a chord in the Filipino heart.
This unique production incorporates the synergy between pop culture and the well-loved classics. Its overall concept depicts a dance competition not unlike the style of traditional classic pieces by using the highlights of the well-loved classical ballets as competition entries. A panel of actors will bind the entire production together, extending their facetious commentaries, scathing remarks, and outright hysterical extravagancies.
DANCE SCHOOL
The CCP Dance School is the professional training ground of the country’s most promising young talents in dance.
With a unique curriculum that encompasses various dance styles and techniques, the systematized method and approach to instruction takes highly into account children’s anatomy at various ages and levels so that the training is first and foremost physically safe, technically effective, and artistically interesting for all children.
Constantly at work and in performance with acclaimed local and international dance artists, the CCPDS students are strikingly different from other dance students. Discipline, dedication, full knowledge of theater decorum and etiquette are the core values that the system imparts together with technique training and artistic mastery.
Regular courses in dance (Classical Ballet and Modern Dance for all levels) including specialized lecture series and workshops are offered from July to March. From April to May, the school conducts a 6-week intensive technique training culminating in a dance showcase at the CCP Main Theater.
Through a consortium agreement between DLSU-College of Saint Benilde and Ballet Philippines, college degree courses in the Performing Arts major in Dance are now available. Academic subjects are taught at DLSU-College of Saint Benilde while Dance Technique classes are conducted by Ballet Philippines.
To encourage excellence among its students, the CCPDS and its mother company, Ballet Philippines, maintains the highest roster of scholars in the country. Scholarships are given to all training levels from children to advance dance students on a regular basis. The scholars comprise the elite group of the school, who by their status, become candidates for company membership. Scholars regularly perform at the CCP Main Theater for the company’s season productions. Any CCPDS student from 8 years old and above is eligible for scholarship and may join the regular auditions conducted both by the school and Ballet Philippines. The scholarship categories include Children’s Level, Male Scholarship Program, Provincial Student Scholarships, Company Scholarship and Company Apprentices.
