Chapter 3 summary

In chapter 3 it talks about any act or gestures that serve to indicate or claim and identify in the presence of others. And everyday situations are filled with announcements, as people intentionally and unintentionally indicate their location. Announcements sometime may be verbal, "Hello my name is Jason." Another way is behavioral, "Jason is now shaking everyone's hand." Sometime announcement goes off appearance, as in a police officer who wears his or her uniform and gets out of a squad car.

They are others ways such as interaction with others in a social situations. This is called biographical self in fact this is a process of role taking. It is saying that people engaged in everyday interaction in particular situation bring their selves with them , and sometime their interaction focuses on other aspects of their lives. Another important aspect is our community; this is a very important in social science in many ways. Our in environment and our community play a major role in how we interact with one another. In the chapter Mead said, "People identify with one another on a basis of age, generation, gender social experiences. This is also important in social identity and this is the identification and community formation, the importance of contemporary communities is their provision and support. Gender also plays a major role in social setting because it is what we learn to expect and take for granted about the behavior of male and females. Gender is both an easy and a difficult concept to define. In the chapter gender is the referred biologically defined characteristics, most notably the possession at birth of the genitalia of one biological sex or other.

Another concept that is hard to define is identity .Identity refers to a person's location relative to others in the situation, the community, or the society as a whole. But it is later defined as the basis of a person's role that is, the perspective from which the individual is acting on the basis of which others act toward him or her.
