Benefits of Online Learning
While a lot of us are still familiar with the traditional face-to-face delivery method of education, online learning is now another option many institutions are offering to their prospective students. The traditional delivery method still dominates the educational system geared towards children and youths, but online learning is becoming more and more popular amongst higher education where students are looking to complete their Bachelors and Masters Degrees. This report will be focusing on higher education, where online learning provides a lot of benefits that outweighs the traditional delivery method.
There is a common misunderstanding that online learning is not as effective as the traditional method. While studying for my accounting designations, the majority of modules are done online through Blackboard. There are weekly assignments, online discussions, as well as quizzes and instructor feedback, and I found it to be very effective and satisfying as a student.
According to an article called: Learning style and effectiveness of online and face-to-face instruction in The American Journal of Distance Education, “Ninety-six percent of the online students found the course to be either as effective or more effective to their learning than their typical face-to-face course.” (C. Neuhauser, 2002) 1 It is absolutely true that the boundaries between online and face-to-face learning are starting to disappear. Distance learning has become an effective learning tool due to the advances in technology. I have found distance learning to be flexible yet effective for working professionals like myself.
