In the reading, everyone can connect to it differently, in my case I understood what it was like to always feel like you are being watched and actually being watched. In my illustration the biggest drawing was the eye, I chose to make this somewhat the centerpiece because it is the main concept in the book. While reading the understanding is that no matter where you are, you will always be watched by big brother that is why I put “Big Brother Is Watching You.” The reason for the barcode is because everyone is being watched and forced to live a certain way and do not have any memories from when they were a child and it symbolizes as property and how one has to follow certain rules. Under the barcode I put the phrase “War Is Peace, Freedom Is Slavery, Ignorance Is Strength.” The reason I put it near the barcode because it portrays the idea of having to follow certain rules, the people are living under certain circumstances that they are forced to be in with phrases that are placed all over the community. Near the eye, I have the words “We Are The Dead” I included this because of the people basically forced to live a certain way, no emotions, no thought, they are a slave in their own minds and bodies and if they are caught having emotions or their own thoughts, they will be taken and will be tortured until they are “fixed” because if you begin to have your own thoughts and emotions you will indirectly be considered “harmful to society.” The chains portray the idea of there is no escape and in reality no freedom. As Winston started to believe he would get away with it, he did not because in the places he believed were secret they were not, big brother still had a view into the locations. The chains also symbolize with the barcode of the idea that you are property and you have to follow the rules if not there will be consequences. It also shows you cannot trust anyone because you do not know who is a thought police of working with “big brother”
