Only a handful of people know that BMW started as a manufacturer of aircraft engines in 1913. Karl Friedrich Rapp started BMW in a former bicycle factory in Munich Germany. In the year of 1918 BMW produced one of the best aircraft engines that had a high demand during World War 1 (BMW Drives). It wasn’t till 1928 BMW decided to switch production to cars. Till today they make some of the most comfortable, reliable and luxurious cars available in today’s market. BMW has 3,250 dealerships across the nation and over 122,000 employees in the automotive section alone (The BMW Group). In this paper I will explore how BMW treats its customers, what they believe in and how they have become one of the most successful car manufacturers that exists.
The brand BMW has many beliefs such as Brand Essence, Brand Identity and Brand values (BMW12). Brand essence of BMW lies along the lines of brand belief which is “why” and “what” they stand for. Sheer driving please is a strategy BMW uses to advertise their cars and target demographic groups which are really seeking a comfortable and pleasurable drive. There main focus when producing cars is to provide its customers with the ultimate driving experience.
“We make cars” is BMWs Brand identity. They strongly believe in producing cars which feel different and much more comfortable. By focusing on details such as the feeling of the steering wheel, instrumenting panel lighting, suspension, and the reaction of the drivetrain ensures each BMW is built with quality and gratitude (BMW12). BMWs main objective is to produce cars that are better and more advanced every year. They focus on building cars that give a classic look and simple design that is very attractive from every angle. While styles evolve year after year the BMW look has remained recognizable to everyone. Starting with the kidney grills that have been in produced since 1938 till today (BMW History). Even if the BMW logo is not recognized people are still able to distinctively recognize the BMW look.
Quality, efficiency and innovation are the three cornerstones of vehicle expertise delivered by BMW. Before any new car enters production engineers focus on developing, innovation, convenient and driver focused features that insure every BMW is able to perform at its absolute best year after year for the best customer satisfaction guaranteed (Bmw.com). They put a total focus on excellence in every aspect of performance and quality customer service.
Many large industries do not understand the importance of Quality customer service and having the best trained staff possible. BMW understands that if they treat their customers with respect and fairness customers will spread the word. Positive word of mouth is a key aspect in becoming a successful business. They have a simple way to handle complaints, they are all sent to the dealership which the car was purchased from and all cars come under warranty. If any customer has a problem with their car or need help understanding new features the BMW dealerships are all happy to help (HBR understanding customer service). They spend a large amount of money on training there employees to be efficient and respectful to all customers (Understanding Customer experience). This car manufacturer has a very interesting moto it says “Don’t listen to your customers predict there needs” (BMW customer service). If we interpret this moto it means you must understand you customer and be able to understand and predict what they need help with or what they want. This doesn’t literally mean do not listen to your customer. It’s implying understand what they want, build a relationship with them so you can predict what they might like and what they dislike in their product. This way customers can always be satisfied with their purchase. For example if a customer is buying a new car it’s important to understand what they will like in the car and what might make them uncomfortable and disclose that information to them. BMW strongly believes in understanding customers and listening to ideas and complaints to resolve any situation in a respectful manner.
Getting in touch with BMW isn’t very difficult, if you have a complaint or problem with your vehicle or Motorcycle you can bring it back anytime to get it Inspected by a service technician (Bmwusa). They have a program for its members where you make an account and can easily contact BMW with questions or concerns through this account. It is a very creative way to save time for its customers so they feel like there business is important and there time isn’t being wasted.
BMW has many ways to incentive there customers, they understand that everyone’s individuality reflects their taste, dreams and ideas. They are able to give its customers the freedom of customizing there vehicles to their preferences to get the maximum customer satisfaction guarantee. They offer many brilliant paint finishes, high quality leather, customized interior and exterior trim and many other packages and equipment to pick from (Bmwusa). Every option available for you vehicle is to make your choices truly unique. Many BMW dealerships offer an incentive where they buy your car lease off if you switch into a BMW. This is a very creative way BMW helps customers own one of the best automobiles available in the market. There are many other promotions and incentives to attract more customers to their vehicles.
