Introduction
Why do people perceive tattoos as being dangerous, dirty, and belonging to a class of “undesirables?” It could be because people cannot live in a world without stories. Since the dawn of humankind, stories have been developed both through natural happenings and casual relations. I feel body piercings and tattoos are good to get because tattoos and body piercings are expressive works of art that can be with you forever, they are also beautiful to the beholder, and they can express so much more than a pretty picture.
Body Piercing and Tattoos
Body piercings and tattoos are good to get because tattoos and body piercings are expressive works of art that can be with you forever. Piercings now are not only used for enhancing one's beauty but are also used for aesthetics. According to (McBeth, 2015), the piercing, more often than not, usually have a personal attachment to the person with it. When one does a piercing, in as much as it appears to be attractive and beautification purposes, it usually is a remembrance of something vital that has happened in a person’s life.” We start to look at our skin as a canvas, and when I look at mine I think prime real estate. The thing that I so love most about them is the fact that they’re forever because nothing else ever really is. They are beautiful, They are art.” (Ruby Rose,July 2012) Finally, it’s the trend right now, and most people are getting tattoos and piercings no matter what their age. People nowadays find body piercing and tattoos trendy and fashion.
Tattoos and body piercings are works of art that people chose to carry with them. The main reasons why people decide to get these pieces of art are to identify themselves and honor loved ones who have passed. (McBeth, 2015). Besides that, if something very personal has occurred to the person, tattoos serve as a remembrance. Most people have described symbol to be an art. That cannot be disputed any further. These pieces of art capture a person’s unique individuality. Tattoos can also bring out the character of a person. However, some people just get them just because they are pretty.
The big question that stills disturb the minds of many is where piercing did, and tattoos originate from? Piercings started out as a cultural thing back as early as Egyptian times. (McBeth, 2015). The Egyptian gods back in the days used to have piercings all over them as a sign of decoration and beauty; recently piercings have become beauty enhancers as well as small fixes to health problems. The Daith piercing is a piercing found by the acupuncturist to help with migraines. Some piercings are done solely for the purpose of sexual arousal and pleasure.
Tattoos are mostly looked down upon as a symbol of criminality and other bad things, but they are also associated with high rankings of certain social statuses. (Goldsholl, 2015). In the society, those people who have tattoos have been categorized into two classes; the high class and the low class. The high-class people are these individuals who put tattoos not because they do not have money but as a sign of pleasure and beautification. On the other hand, we have this group of people who with tattoos, their general appearance to the public is more of a gangster personality. These are the people who put tattoos with the intention of immoral social behavior. Usually, the tattoos put by these types of individuals are as a result of the negative events that have happened in their lives, for example, death and robbery. More often than not, this caliber of low-class social class people is found in shanty homes known as the ghetto. According to (Goldsholl, 2015), once you get tattoos I feel it opens doors to the brand new community of people. People that you may have never thought you would have been friends with before. When your mind is open to new things, you can meet and do amazing things with amazing people.
