Business Establishments in the University fall under four general categories:
1. Those listed under the Business Concessionaires Office
2. Those with a permit to operate from the University (categorized as Individual/Institutional Concessionaire).
3. Those under the University Food Service.
4. The so-called "illegal" business establishments
BCO Concessionaires
The Business Concessionaires Officeis concerned with the regulation of enterprise in the campus. It also oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the UP Shopping Center which was built in 1976 largely in response to the need for a shopping complex closer to students and residents. It is located on Laurel Avenue near the UP Cooperative and the PNB branch. When applications for concessions were opened, these were the requirements:
1. An applicant must be a non-University employee.
2. Must submit a proof of financial capacity which consisted of a bank deposit of at least 15000 Php.
3. Must be willing to execute a yearly contract of lease renewable upon mutual consent and subject to the stipulatons of the contract.
Furthermore, food handling establishments were required to secure the following:
1. Sanitary and Health permit to operate from the UP Health Service and the Quezon City Health Department.
2. Food handlerspermit/Health Certificate likewise from the UP Health Deparmtent and Quezon City Health Deparmtent.
3. Business Permit, License and Tax obtained from BCO and Quezon City Hall
4. Clean and Neat uniforms for food attendants on duty.
5. Clearance from the Committee on Food Service.
Institutional/Individual Concessionaires
