Launched in October 4, 2017 Google Home is one of the latest addition to the Google Family. At an affordable rate of $180, Google Home features a varieties of voice-controlled optimizations for your home to make it just more homely. Now you have the power to sync all your devices and access features like playing a movie on your tv or adjusting the temperature of your room along with so much more, now you can do it all just by two simple words: Okay Google. Google Home lets user control several aspects of their tv, audio, lighting and heating devices in their house and rooms through voice-command system.
We already loved Google Assistance on our phone and the awesome things it could do, Google Home is the next big thing and another innovative step toward the future. As we experience the rise of AI technologies, Google being the medium of innovation and creativity brings us an experience that will keep you staying in bed for hours as we play one after another movies just through voice command. It’s hard finding a good roommate. Some leave dishes in the sink. Others stiff you on rent. But Google, or more specifically, the Google Assistant, isn’t like that at all. Everything considered and as far as roommates go, it’s actually one of the best you’ll ever have.
That’s because Google Assistant, the smart artificial intelligence that’s built into the Google Home, actually makes life easier rather than more difficult for you. You can ask it to lower the thermostat for you when you leave, diagnose your symptoms when you’re feeling ill or have it locate that funny clip from Colbert last night and throw it onto your Chromecast without any hesitation.
It’s smart enough to tell you how much plane tickets cost from where you live to any exotic destination you can think of, or prattle off oddly specific information like how much a cashew nut weighs (2.6 to 3.3 pounds, apparently) or how much a new piece of technology costs.
Socio-cultural
We are living in an increasing evolving digital era, where electronics devices have taken over more or less every aspect of our lives. In this increasing inter-connected cyber era, people want more and more control over their devices through a single device, like a universal remote for all their electronic devices. Google played on this sentiment and the bright minds at Google headquarters have come up to the next big solution to simply our lives, with Google Home.
Google thrives on making things accessible, most importantly, information. Google’s vision for Google Home, is to have an Assistant, you can have a conversation with. With that in mind, Google Home, user friendliness is a people’s favorite as proven through various amazing online reviews and videos. Google Home’s compatibility with any devices is another key innovative difference of Google. Google Home, can be easily synced to your Microsoft or Apple devices through Google Home mobile App. Google is aware people are increasingly using varieties of other brands however, Google don’t want anyone to be left out. For this vision of inclusiveness, Google has made its home in hearts of millions of people around the world.
Competitors
Google has been on the frontline of technological advances for decades. Starting out as an internet search engine in the beginning of the digital era, Google has since evolved and have spread out into something so much more than just a brand but a trusted name. People relied on Google’s services for decades and now as almost everything is online, Google has branched out and synced almost every aspect of your digital life. From it’s innovation of Chrome Cast to the latest Pixel and Google Home, Google has showed us once again the reason it is always at the top of its game and a favorite amongst its competitors.
Google Home may not be a new concept however it is a much innovated and optimized choice, as opposed to its twin competitor Amazon Echo. Amazon Echo provides much of same services Google Home provide however Echo does not have an automated feedback response system that Google has and is the reason Google Home feels that personal. When put to test, Google Home, can tell you about specific queries you may ask it and also give feedback responses regarding any aspects of it. For example: You may ask it what year a certain movie came out and it will tell you the year and production house and a bit of the summery of the movie, then you ask it feedback queries, like how many people played in it and who was the main lead, Google Home can tell you all that information in matter of seconds. While Amazon Echo will tell you what year the movie came out and some of the summery of it, however it’s unable to provide any more feedback on it, it will just direct you to links that you can access from your devices.
Legal and Political Environment
Government stability is one of the major aspects in Google's strategy. If the market is stable, governments help businesses and so these businesses advertise more on Google, hence, benefitting Google. In addition, most of the governments do not have identified laws for online information sharing, thus, giving Google the opportunity to manipulate laws. However, China has created a barrier for Google by adding regulations that forbid Google from operating on their terms. For example, the Chinese Government launched a surveillance system called Golden Shield for monitoring civilian use of Internet.
On a positive note, most of the political factors affect Google negligibly, and speaking further makes no notable difference to Google’s consumer base for the Google Home. Some of these factors are taxation polices, employment laws and environment protection laws.
Google has also faced concern on copyright issues because the company stores copies of third party web pages and images on their servers. They have responded to this criticism by releasing a copyright information page. The page provides the relevant information regarding digital information and provides links to notify both Google and the U.S. Copyright Office of suspected infringement.
