In the novel Cannery Row, Steinbeck writes about many characters. There is always a main character though and in this book it is Lee Chong. Lee is a man living by Cannery Row. He owns a very popular shop and if someone ever needs anything he will have it. He is very gracious to his costumers because he cares for each and every one of them. I do the same. If a person is my friend I will do anything to protect them.
Lee Chong is a very strict business man but with a good heart. I feel that I have the same personality. I will get the work done that has to be done but I will also break some rules to help someone. Lee Chong helps the people in need. For example, there was a man that needed to pay off his dept but did not have enough money. Lee Chong took a small, dirty shack from him instead of money. Lee has a very good heart. Even though he has to take something for the debt, he lets you give him stuff other than money.
Lee Chong changes everyone's life in the story, even the people who are already dead. His grandfather was already dead but Lee still wanted to do something for him. Lee Chong reburied him in his home land because his grandfather wished for that before he died. That event is one of the many when Lee Chong helped someone. I would do the same.
Lee is a very important character in this book. He is the main character and he changes the lives of every character in this story. I believe that I share most of his personalities. I would also help people in need and if I couldn't I would ask someone else to do it. Many of the characters look up to him and even if I am not a character in this story, I too look up to him.
