Capital Punishment
First of all I am sort of torn between being for capital punishment and being against it. I believe if we commit a crime, then we should definitely be punished, but is putting a person to death a justifiable act? In my opinion, killing another human being is inhuman, and if we react this way then we are no better than the actual criminal. I know that taxpayers have to pay to take care of criminals, but, as a taxpayer, I would much rather pay to feed criminals than to put them to death without being 100% sure that they are guilty of the crime that they are accused of. I believe instead of using capital punishment that criminals should have to live to suffer life without their freedom, they should have some form of work that they have to do to help earn their keep, and they should never under any circumstance be allowed to get out of jail.
I believe that death is the easy way out for a criminal. I believe criminals should have to live without their freedom. It has to be pretty bad to spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year confined to a small cell with only a steel cot, toilet and sink in it. Not being able to call a friend, go to the store, or even shower when I want to is an awful visual for me. Although criminals might not care about the same things as an average person, it’s bound to negatively affect them to have to live in the conditions of a jail.
I believe criminals should be given some sort of a job that they can perform from within their cell or under maximum security. They should not be able to decide where the money goes. As a matter of fact, it should be used to fund the facility that they are housed in. If a prisoner doesn’t want to work, then they should not be allowed to eat or shower. Although it seems wrong for taxpayers to have to support criminals, it would be just as wrong to kill someone and find out later that they were not the ones
