TITTLE OF CAREER: Real Estate Appraisers
DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES:
1. Knowledge in a variety of disciplines.
2. Knowledge of construction costs and methods, land values, and zoning requirements.
3. Ability to read maps and drawings, make calculations, analyze and evaluate data, write reports and give testimony.
4. Knowledge of an item being appraised and experience in related job specialties where a working knowledge of appraising could be required.
5. Must be bondable and have a good driving record.
6. Knowledge of problem-solving.
7. Estimate the cost of replacing the property
8. Take photographs
9. May be required to give expert witness testimony in court
10 Specialize in particular types of porperty
TRAINING/EDUCATION AND OTHER QUILIFICATION
Many schools and colleges have courses in real estate appraisal. Some colleges have bachelor degree programs relating to appraising. More complex types
of real estate require more extensive training. Two Years of training is recommended. However, a bachelor's degree is required for government work.
Many firms want people with experience, too. A master's degree is helpful if specializing later. Programs and related courses, such as accounting,
business administration, geology mathematics, economics, etc. are available in community colleges, universities and private business schools. Some
begin as apprentice while still in school. Some work part-time in real estate agencies or lending institutes, and develop appraisal skills there.
Some do their beginning level work in government agencies. Experience as a Real Estate Broker, Real Estate Salesperson, Assessor, Builder, or Property
Manager helps.
ENVIROMENT
* Appraisers work in offices and make frequent trips where May walk around and climb stairs to view property.
* Real Estate Appraisers and other Appraisers are continually in contact with people.
