- Please assess the attractiveness of the newspaper industry in 2015?
There is a perfect storm hits global newspaper in 2005 because the fast development of internet. The print advertising market, which still remains the lifeblood of income for most publishers on the path to digital sustainability, has been down unprecedented levels of as much as 30% in some weeks from the January to June. For example, most of the UK’s top 10 newspaper advertisers have stripped their budgets: the biggest, Sky, has cut its spend by 20% in the first nine months, according to unofficial figures. Second ranked BT has lopped 18% off its national newspaper ad budget so far, Asda is down 47% and the once ever-reliable Tesco is down 39%.
- What is your preferred avenue for growth for the NYT?
In my opinion, one of New York Times’s key differentiating factors is the quality of the content that it provides. Since the Internet is fast becoming the primary avenue of news delivery, consumers have many alternatives to pick and choose from in seeking news aggregators. Therefore, the quality content will be the main focal point that aids in attracting and retaining users. What’s more, it can develop the digital platform and it should be increased synchronization the news to the paper and electric products (such as iPad, mobile phone) to increase the consumer who just want to browse the news by mobile phone and so on. Then it can gain many ads and get profits from them.
- How could their Business Model look like in 2020 if they follow your recommendation?
It will take up the majority news market because of its high-quality news and information. It will attractive more consumers, not only the traditional newspaper users, but also some young people who likes watching the news on mobile phone. The price of ads will be increased once again, and the company’s profit will also be increased. What’s more, NYT will increase the ability to revamp various sources and then it will supple higher quality and more useful news and information to consumers.
