Organizations can be compared to a computer. A computer consist of many parts that are responsible for the operation of the entire system. Like a computer, an organization consist of different departments that are responsible for certain jobs. Members that make up the organization are responsible for certain roles like communication with others, and working with others to make sure that the company is running smoothly. In this paper, I will talk about communication, dress and language, and organizational policies and compare them to the company that I work for.

Communication is the process of transmitting and receiving ideas, information and messages (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborne, 2005). The transmission of information over long distances and access to information is very important for companies that have different branches. Through the use of computers, they allow the different branches to communicate information quickly and efficiently. Affina, which is a call center that I work for, communicates mainly through email. When sending a message through computers we can get our message and important updates quickly. This method allows us to communicate not only with our peers but also with the main office which is in Peoria, Il. The methods of communication include computer email, voice mail, and written memos(Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborne, 2005). Technology has allowed us to plug into the office place anywhere. Our company have flexible areas for their workers where they can sit down, log into any computer and have a phone, desk, and general office requirements available.

Many companies advocate dressing for success. In my profession, we dress towards the client based on whether it be a dress, pant suit or casual attire. How employees dress speaks volumes about a company. Even staff who aren't customer-facing must dress to a certain standard , even on the hottest days of the year. With a dress code in place that allows for seasonal variation, employees are given proper guidance and left in no doubt about what is appropriate and what isn't. We have casual day once a week during which we are allowed to wear jeans, T-shirts or sweatshirts and that is usually on Fridays. We also have logo-wear day, which is on Mondays, to promote company spirit. On this day, we get to wear jeans when it is accompanied with Affina t-shirt or sweater. For those who start work after 5 p.m., or the ones that work on the weekends and holidays, are permitted to wear casual attire at all times. Tuesday through Thursday we have to wear business attire. Many times you have someone that is sent home without pay because they chose to wear what ever they wanted to. When you don't follow the dress policy, it not only hurts the company, but it also affects your pay.

Accepting diversity means more than feeling comfortable with employees whose race, ethnicity, or gender differ from your own (Couzins, Martin, Beagrie, Scott, 2005). What it does mean is learning to value and respect styles and ways of behaving that differ from yours (Couzins, Martin, Beagrie, Scott, 2005) Affina is made up of employees from diverse back grounds. I can remember when I started working for Affina, they could tell that I had a southern accent. Through time my accent changed and now I no longer have that southern twang. I also work with Hispanics also. Some have heavy accents and others you can't even tell that they speak English because they speak fluent English without the accent. We also have Afro-Americans also that have different accents. Some tend to have the southern accents and others depending on the location that they use to live tend to have different
