The Catcher in the Rye

The only person in the book, Catcher in the Rye, that come out to be a phony is Holden due tot his hypocrisy and judgmental self.  Holden believes that adults are phonies throughout the whole book.  There are a few people he doesn’t make out to be phony, like Phoebe and Mr. Antolini.  When it comes to people, Hold jdges them immediately.  Everyone Holden thinks are phonies are not really phonies.  Holden is the only one who turns out to be a phony.

Holden thinks that adults are phonies throughout the whole book.  Any person that he comes across, he has something to say about them.  For example the old man that came back to the school, Holden thought he was a phony.  Holden just may be insecure so e feels the need to always have an opinion about everything.  People like that are not really phony.  Holden just has a way of convincing others that people are phonies.

There are only two main people in the book who he does not make out to be phonies.  Thos two people are Phoebe and Mr. Antolini.  He does not think that Phoebe is a phony because she is a little girl so he thinks she is innocent.  He does not think that Mr. Antolini is phony because he is one of his favorite teachers.  Mr. Antolini has been on of Holden’s favorite teachers and an adult he did not make out as fake.  Holden lost some faith in him when he was watching his sleep.

Holden is the phony.  He is the one who acts like a child but also wants to be an adult at the same time.  Holden always makes fun of people and that is kind of fake.  Holden wants to fake and drink and do adult things.  He also encounters adult events that he seems that he doesn’t handle mature.  He is really a fake and cannot handle being mature.  

Holden thinks that adults are phonies.  The people he encounters he makes fun of them or judges the immediately.  There are few people that he doesn’t think are phonies such as, Phoebe and Mr. Antolini.  Holden is really the phony in the book, and shows himself as hypocritical and judgmental.
