Centripetal Motion

Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to test the relationship between the force of an object in centripetal motion and the radius. We further will test in this experiment the relationship between the force and the weight acting on the object. From this we will be able to see clearly the relationship between force and speed and acceleration as well.

Experimental Procedure:

I- The effect of Weight and radius on the Force of an object in centripetal Motion

A- To begin this experiment, it is first necessary to set up the object and apparatus to be put in centripetal motion. To do this, place the string through the tube and attach it to the weight. Measure out a radius of 60 cm, and tape the string and tube in that position. Then weigh the washers as well as the rubber stopper.

B- The next step is to put 3 washers onto the end of the string. Raise the string and swing in uniform centripetal motion. Time how long it takes for 30 revolutions. Record this value.

C-Next, repeat this experiment for different number of washers in intervals of three. This tests the effect of weight on centripetal motion.

D- Repeat this experiment for a radius of 30 cm. This tests radius's affect on the force.
