Chef’s Ferran Adria and Jose Andres
Ferran Adria is a Catalan Chef that was born on May 14, 1962 in the province of Barcelona in Hospitalet de Llobregat in northeastern Spain. His full name is Fernando Adria Acosta. He is an influential pioneer in the culinary world for his work within molecular gastronomy. Molecular gastronomy is the scientific discipline concerned with the physical and chemical transformations that occur during cooking, and applying that knowledge is such ways to create new dishes and culinary techniques. Ferran Adria is considered by many to be the best chef in the world of the 21st century.
To help finance a trip to Ibiza when he was 18, an island in Spain, Ferran dropped out of school and became a dishwasher at a hotel restraint. At this restaurant, he began to learn about classic gastronomic techniques, and his training let to kitchen jobs at other restaurants in his area. In 1982, Ferran enlisted in the Spanish Navy to fulfill his compulsory military service. While stationed in Cartagena, he was able to become a personal chef to an Admiral stationed there. After his service ended in 1984, Ferran was offered a one-month internship at El Bulli, which is a respected French restaurant in Roses, on the Costa Brava. After his internship, Ferran was offered a full-time position as a line cook, and after eight months, was promoted to co-head chef, along with another cook in the kitchen. By 1987, Ferran had become the chef de cuisine for El Bulli.
