Food and Nutrition 11 Reflective Journal

Food Safe:

Food safe is one of the important things in order to become a chef or just to cook. It is the foundation of all food safe in the kitchen. Learning about food safe can greatly save you and your customers from illnesses such as food poisoning. Very little understanding of Food Safe can have someone have a very bad stomach-ache. Advantages of learning Food Safe are preventing Food Borne illness and to avoid potentially severe health hazards. Disadvantages would be illnesses and bad food, which leads to no customer, which then leads to no money, which then leads to no business.

European Cookery:

European food is some of the foods that I’ve never cooked about before. This was a whole new experience to me. I think it’s important to expand your knowledge of every food type there is, regardless of their culture. Having knowledge about food is a few key aspects on improving your skills on cooking new foods. In foods class we cooked a chicken schnitzel, which I found to be very delicious, although I found the name “schnitzel” very amusing but the chicken was still good. Overall it was satisfying battering the chicken and whacking it.

Asian Cookery:

Asian cuisine is my favourite type of cuisine; Indian food and Japanese food are my favourite ones. Asian food holds a special place in my heart. What I love about Asian food is the uniqueness and its spices, especially Indian food. There is a lot of variety of food when it comes to Asian cuisine. Even the most bizarre food exists on Asian Cuisine. .There is much different method on cooking food in Asian culture. Stir frying, steaming and deep frying are some of the methods you can choose to cook your food.  In foods class we made sushi which was not bad, it wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad either. The only thing I hated about making sushi is the limited amount of ingredients we can choose top put in our sushi. Overall it was a good experience on learning how to make sushi again

North American Cookery:

North American food is very unique to its own very way. North American cuisine is made up of different food from different region. The most common food in US is steak. Unfortunately we didn’t make steak but instead chocolate pie. The chocolate pie was very good but was too sweet for me. The hardest part of making the pie was the crust. It was either cooked perfectly or burnt. The filling was very easy to make. Chocolate pie was my favourite pie because of CHOCOLATE. Overall it was a good experience on making the pie and eating it as well.

Middle Eastern Cookery:

Middle Eastern food was very interesting to me and my fellow classmates. I’ve only had falafel but that is it. It was all new to me and it was a fun experience. What I learned from this lab was the different spices it had and that was important because the spices help build up the flavour inside of the falafel. My favourite dish was of course the falafel with the pita bread. Falafel with pita bread was delicious good for your body too.

Nutrition:

You need nutrition in your body. It is important to learn about nutrition so you can have a better understanding on what food your body needs and your daily intake. Nutrition is some of the most important things to learn because you can learn so much more by doing research about it and can benefit your body in a good way. Although some labs in foods are very nutritious they aren’t very good for you. For example, Baklava, sure it tasted nice and can be nutritious but it can be bad since it is full of sugar.
