Cocktail with Mimi
By: Mary Chase
Cocktails with Mimi, a funny, intriguing, vivacious play; had me wanting to see more and more as the play prolonged. Even though the scene stayed in one setting throughout the play, the actors made me feel like I was in there with them, experiencing the arguments and clumsiness they portrayed in the play. The costumes were relevant to the setting the play was in, making the comedy a lot more real, like a soap opera.
Shannon Jennings, a senior at Lyman High School played the star role of Mimi. Shannon played her character as a mother who tries to dress "sexy" in very skimpy clothing. I thought she put on a good character as being a very flamboyant, carefree mother. The way Shannon made Mimi sound and look very "bubbly" made her character more interesting to watch. The skimpy silver dress along with the sudden outbursts pulled off the young happy-go-lucky mother look.
Edie played by Emily Schwartz a freshman at Lyman High School. I think Emily did a good job playing her character, the daughter of Mimi, a very worrisome and unorganized teenager. I think that because Emily is a freshman she can probably relate to her character a lot more than anyone older or younger, because these are times when she wants parent approval on a new boyfriend and she is a young lady growing up as well.
I think this play was performed very well by all of the actors, and I would recommend anyone to see it. It's a funny comical production that will get everyone laughing in no time.
