“Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the opening ceremony of T1 that is a tailor-made a platform for new and upcoming independent designers to make merchandises for customers who have their own requirement and personality, which opens an era of the design intelligence. For younger generations are much more self-oriented now than ever and they care for personality. Mass production for fast fashion retailing is experiencing downfall for the lack of individuality, independent designers, on the contrary, offer the market with diversity. Look, as the night fell, the Huangpu River looks like a graceful girl, sweet and quiet. Tonight, we will shine for it and now let’s appreciate our independent designers’ clothing design work.”
Suddenly, the alarm clock was ringing, and I was awakened by it. Looking at the clock, it was 8:00 A.M. and I quickly got up, putting on my dress in a hurry. When brushing my teeth, I still giggled because the dream was so beautiful and real. Although I was busy all day, I really enjoyed my work and tried my best to create maximum value for my won. In retrospect, the reason why I loved fashion was my family background. Growing up in a very artistic family that my mother likes decorating our house with flowers and my father likes Chinese poems, I was immersed in the beauty world. It seemed quite natural that I would lay my eyes on beautiful things. I fell in love with fashion at gets out of hand after buying a fashion magazine Bazaard at my year of 12 and decided that fashion would be my career in a mere second. Of course, I chose to learn Apparel Design and Engineering in Donghua University. During my 4-year undergraduate study, I have not only had a solid basic knowledge of clothing fabric and design, but also mastered the production technology of clothing styles, methods, and process design of clothing.
Undoubtedly, after my graduation, I was engaged in fashion industry. At the beginning, as a management trainee in C&A, I did rotation in different functional department to fully understand the operation structure of the company, and the relationship among each department with buying team. However, 2013 MT Acceleration Camp became a turning point for my work. Every team was given a task to present a strategy plan to build a collection from scratch and finally sell it in the store in mere 2 days. I lead the team to build the collection based on a roadmap and format that I created. It involved an assortment plan that calculated the number of styles and order depths based on history with the given budget, a style plan that combine “money-maker” that’s inspired from bestsellers to ensure business and “image-maker” that’s more trend driven to attract customer and a sales proposal, including store layout, promotion proposal and to further connect with the customers, an implement of QR code that will lead to detailed info for each garments, which won the best team and became a buying bible for all the buyers in the company by CMO and Buying Director. Due to my excellent work performance and quick-learning ability, I was promoted as a junior buyer in advance.
