The Cold War was a competition between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Both countries wanted their type of government to dominate the world. In this competition, there were three areas that both sides used to show the world that they were the superior nation. These areas were nuclear weapons, space race, and the Olympics.
Both countries competed to build bigger and better nuclear weapons. After the Soviet Union found out that the U.S. had been making an H-Bomb, they also had made one 6 months later. Thereafter, both countries had been competed continuously to see who could make the better and most nuclear weapons. In result, the world is now filled with a lot of bombs that are toxic and dangerous, which would make it even more difficult to get rid of. Also, because of the competition of building nuclear weapons, both countries spent billions of money on making them.
Another competition was the space race between the U.S. and Soviet Union. Both countries competed with in space to show the world that they were the most advanced in technology and that they were the first to do something. For example, Soviet Union was the first to put a satellite in space that orbits the Earth, Sputnik. And even though Soviet Union was the first to put man in space, the U.S. was the first to have a man land on the moon. In result, the U.S. spent 25 billion on going to the moon.
Also, another competition to show that they were the superior country was with the Olympics. The Olympics was a way to show who was the most athletic out of both countries. In result of this competition, the Olympics later became an event for pros rather that amateurs, which it was originally for. Also, the Olympics were then broadcasted on television.
So in the end, the Cold War was really a battle of who is the most superior and advanced country by building nuclear weapons, space race, and Olympics. And because of the Cold War, both countries had made huge advancements and
