Comcast Corporation is the nation's leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, with 24.1 million cable customers, 12.4 million high-speed Internet customers and 3.5 million voice customers. Comcast is principally involved in the development, management and operation of broadband cable networks and in the delivery of programming content.

Comcast provides a wide variety of consumer products and services:

There are three key players at Comcast. They are integral parts of the company. The key players are Brian L. Roberts the CEO, Stephen Burke COO, and John Archin the CFO.

Brian Roberts is Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation. Brian Roberts' father, Ralph J. Roberts was the founder of Comcast. Brian Roberts had lead Comcast to become one of the nation's leading provider of Cable and internet. Under his leadership Comcast has grown into a Fortune 100 company with $22.3 billion in revenues, 24.2 million customers and 90,000 employees. Comcast's networks and investments include E! Entertainment Television, Style Network, The Golf Channel, VERSUS, G4, AZN Television, PBS KIDS Sprout, TV One, and Comcast SportsNets.

Stephen B. Burke

Steve Burke has been with Comcast since 1998. He has focused on the company's growth from a cable industry leader to a world-class communications company. He was an intergral part in leading the highly successful and integration of AT&T Broadband with Comcast. John Alchin serves as Executive Vice President, Co-Chief Financial Officer of Comcast Corporation. d. Purpose

The purpose of this report is to present an analysis of Comcast Corporation. The analysis will be focusing on the research and development sector of the corporation. The analysis done will help develop a hypothetical list of Portfolio projects for Comcast Corporation. The team members for this report are Marilyn Pelech, Srinidhi Magge, and Kevin Suh. Interaction among group members occurred on a weekly conference call.

e. Overview

Comcast started as a regional provider and grew to the largest cable provider in the United States. Comcast focused on obtaining new customers with the latest technology. Comcast competes in the cable industry which provides some monopolistic protection by limiting direct competition. Comcast faces competition from competing technologies such as satellite providers. Comcast has diversified its portfolio by acquiring television networks, such as E! Entertainment Television. This is a small market of its profit. In addition to television networks, Comcast is offering new products, such as pay-per-view, video on demand and Internet access, some of which cannot be offered by satellite providers. Comcast is a telecommunications provider able to provide phone and Internet service also cable television. Comcast is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. Comcast has 90,000 employees in the company. Seventy-five thousand employees are in the cable side and fifteen thousand employees in other areas of the business.
