Equalities and Inclusion - What have you done that demonstrates you will adopt a consistent and appropriate approach to individual and diverse needs in the community and/or workplace?

In my role as a Community Support Manager (CSM) working for Pinnacle PSG, I worked closely with the local Council, Housing Representatives and Neighbourhood Police in Westminster and Lambeth to provide a safe and secure environment for residents to live in by engaging with the local community and providing services. One such service being the out of hours Anti Social Behaviour initiative where residents could call and report such matters, and an on duty manager would then attend scene taking appropriate action.

I worked closely with the youth and elderly, youth being susceptible to crime and the elderly at their most fragile. I have overseen projects for the youth to keep them off the streets and arranged programmes for the elderly to keep them both physically and mentally active. Projects for the youth included team building exercises, music production and sporting tournaments. Salsa classes for the over 60’s were a great success, as too were the evening quiz nights and open discussions.

Personal Resilience - What have you done that demonstrates you can cope with difficult situations

I was under instruction from my Contracts Director to cut with immediate effect all overtime to concierge and instead use an agency which would be more cost effective.

This had a negative effect on staff morale which affected their approach to work.

So I arranged a meeting with my Contracts Director along with HR and I started by informing both parties that the concierges have raised financial concern and are displaying negative attitudes at work. I explained that the concierge did not feel a part of the company as they were not consulted about the changes and how it may affect them.

I said that the concierges on this contract are highly competent, long serving, are well known to residents and as a result will provide a more thorough service than an agency concierge.

I suggested that overtime to be reinstated, but on the condition that all concierges have a monthly limit on how much overtime is available to them. Those shifts which are left over could then be covered by an agency.

The above was approved and enabled me to hold a team meeting with my concierges to provide them with reasoning into the decision which they welcomed.

Community Involvement - What skills are needed to successfully undertake community engagement, and what have you done that demonstrates you have these skills

I think a person needs to be Professional, Positive, Pro-Active, a Team Player and have excellent Interpersonal skills.

Also the need to value equality and diversity, regardless of a person’s age, sex, religion, race, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or disability.

As a CSM, I was responsible for providing Westminster council residents who lived on the route of the Notting Hill Carnival procession with a safe and entertainment packed day.
