CHAPTER I
RATIONALE
Industrialization and entrepreneurship ate the contributory factor to a fast growing economy. Therefore, industrialization and entrepreneurship is the dream of many developing countries. As to the Philippines, having been chosen by the multi-national company Canon, as an outlet of marketing its products means a great trust on the capabilities of the Filipinos.
As the information technology becomes one of the most popular industries today, Canon Marketing Philippines is challenge to push new and innovated technologies in the market of the Philippines. Manufacturing innovations evolve from maintaining a global production system rooted in local cultures. Canon's leading edge developments provide leading-edge document processing solutions. Working hand-in-hand with partners and affiliates, Canon stays ahead of environmental regulations.
Since its founding, Canon has deployed its strengths in optical and precision technologies to develop leading-edge systems and components for industries as diverse as broadcasting, and semiconductor production. Today, different companies and industries are equipped with Canon products.
In San Fernando City, La Union where one of the branches of Canon marketing Philippines is located, the strategic location, enables the company to extend its products and services to the whole of Region2 1, 2 & CAR.
It is then on this premise that the study on the system operations of Canon Marketing Philippines-La Union Branch was conceived. As CMP aims to gain continuous growth, the result of the study may offer helpful information in the pursuits of its goals.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORKS
The conceptual framework used in this case study is shown in Figure 1. This framework shows that management practices result in the interaction among the 3 major factors: 1) Management concepts which include: Organization and Management, Operation, Marketing and Financial; 2) Internal Factors (weakness); 3) External Factors which includes: 1) The Enhancing Factors (Opportunities) and 2) the Limiting Factors (Threats).
The Management Concepts are the basic guide posts of the company in the implementation of its various activities. Theses are important in determining various decisions factors, like, the need to understand the various ways or behavior in the organization, the need to keep watch of the various financial indicators such as the financial statements, the need and importance of training for the employees. Hence, the basic ingredients, in terms of management practices were he factors mentioned above.
These are actually Limiting and Enhancing factors that affects these management practices. These Limiting Factors may be internally and externally. Likewise, Enhancing factors may also be internally and externally. Internal Limiting factors are otherwise called the weaknesses or the negative factors. External Limiting factors internally are the strengths of the company and the Enhancing Factors externally are the opportunities coming across the company. Internal factors are the controllable ones while the uncontrollable ones are those coming externally. This requires an in-depth analysis of the company.
Hence, the case study, after all these analysis could be summarized as Strength Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threat (SWOT), comes up with certain recommendation to attend to the negative or limiting factors, both internal & external. These in the end, are directed towards the attainment of the company goals & objectives which could be profitability or customer satisfaction or growth of all of them.

OBJECTIVES
This study aimed to analyze the various management practices of Canon marketing Philippines through the case study approach. The specific objectives are:
1) To present the general profile of the company,
2) To describe its systems:
a) Organization & Management
b) Manufacturing and Operations Management
c) Marketing Management
d) Financial Management
3) To undertake situational analysis using the SWOT approach; and
4) To propose recommendation based the SWOT results to help the company realize the achievement of their goals.
