Comparing and Contrasting Communication Style

Fred Rogers once said: “Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” We can see that communication in our daily life is quite significant. What’s more, different people in different gender, life experiences and occupations all have some similarities and differences in communication styles. To demonstrate my views better. I will compare and contrast my mother and my father’s communication styles in the daily life.

First of all, introducing some of their background is necessary for understanding why they speak like that. My mother is a teacher with an outgoing personality. She said that she likes to communicate with others because she can learn more information which is quite interesting . My father is a manager of an institution which signifies that he needs to talk in many situations. For now you can see that it is convincing to compare and contrast them.

After comparing them, I found that both my mother and my father tend to describe things vividly and detailedly. For example, once my mother came from her trip, she told me about her trip excitedly and included many details such as how many money she spent on souvenir, what she ate during the trip and what she said to the local people. She usually use many adjective to express her feeling correctly. Similarly, I once asked my father about his childhood and he gave me many specific numbers like he got up at 5 a.m to exercise, the weather in winter was extremely cold and it was usually below zero. In my opinion, the reason their communication styles are like this is because of their occupation. They both need to make their given information clearly to make people comprehend.
