dvancement of mankind ever since it’s beginning in 8,000 B.C.E. Competitiveness introduced man’s first inventions, and ushered in capitalism as well as the nuclear age. Arguably, competitiveness was a great factor in human.
A study on the competitiveness of corporate firms versus performance by Greg Young, Ken Smith and Curtis Young was used to display the relation between the competitiveness of corporate firms (based on conditions, environment, and other factors) was applied to their relative performance. The study showed that as competitiveness increased to a cetain level, performance increased, and after competitiveness passed the level, the performance of the firms decreased due to hypercompetitiveness. (possible confounding variable)
A study by Zahirul Hoque, Lokman Mia and Manzural Alam on competitiveness on performance concluded upon a need for multiple measures of performance to measure against competitiveness due to confounding factors. Their study showed that businesses scoring higher on the multiple measure performance test were more competitive than other businesses.
A separate study by Wenpin Tsai, at Pennsylvania Statue University again concluded that competitiveness was positively correlated to performance. The researcher though concluded that the performance was also correlated to the learning abilities of the members of the group.
A study by Jeffrey Cowin on competitiveness versus performance showed a greater relation between the competitiveness of strategies on performance than competitiveness alone on business firms. He went on to state that strategy was more important than competitiveness. (possible confounding variable)
A study by M. Y. Ismail, M. El. Baradie and M. S. J. Hashmi assessed the competitiveness of management versus. Performance, and found a moderately high correlation of .694. The study also found that the correlation was slightly higher for foreign firms.
