2. The French Revolution undermined traditional monarchy as well as the power of the Catholic Church and the hereditary aristocracy, however, it did not create an enduring form of representative democracy.

Women did not gain the rights to vote until the late 19th century, did not get access to higher education and were not allowed into colleges until after the civil war, and women outnumbered men but the amount of women getting married barely changed. However, women did find it hard to balance work and their responsibilities to their family since family responsibilities were all they were “good for” in the past.

7. Technology gave industrial peoples an upper hand over nonindustrial peoples, politics, money, and religion did not because nonindustrial peoples were not as advanced and couldn’t defend themselves as well as an industrialized civilization could.

This poem relates to imperialism of non-Western countries because it is a warning to the United States about what it should expect when it tries to become an imperial power.  Kipling felt that the US was embarking on its first real imperial action when it took control of the Philippines after the Spanish-American War. The excerpt from the test means that the work of civilizing the imperialized peoples will be very difficult.

The system described was most similar to the conditions of Russian peasants under Tsarist rule, not, the system of labor in England under Queen Victoria, the relationship of North American colonists with Great Britain before 1776, and the alliance between a lord and his king during the Middle Ages in Europe.

51. The Spanish-American War was a conflict fought between the US and Spain that resulted in the US obtaining many formerly Spanish ruled countries.

52. The answer is A because democracy is the type of government best suited for the chart since a democracy is the belief that powers should be divided between different branches so that government does not become too strong.

54. The answer is B because having the upper hand in military and transportation allowed Europe to stay in control.

55. The answer is C because religious divisions of Islam had nothing to do with the decline of the Ottoman Empire.
