1. In what ways does the market based economy ignore the true costs of manufacturing something?

a. The market does not distinguish between renewable and non renewable resources.

b. The market values items that are more desirable and more likely to run out.

c. The market does not take in to consideration the true costs or the impact of manufacturing something such as the environmental degradation, expenses of eventual disposal, and other harms to the environment in the manufacturing process.

2. What are some of the benefits to communal ownership?

a. The land can be passed from one generation to the next.

b. Surplus items can be pooled together for times of additional need.

c. Shows that ownership of the land is not needed for someone to take care of it.

3. One way for bioregionalism to work is by being self sufficient. In what ways would bioregionalism be more self sufficient?

a. The economy would be more stable because the people would have control of how things were fed in and out of the system.

b. The area would not be controlled by other outside areas. They would not have to rely on the vast amount of foreign trade.

c. The area would become richer since there would not be a need to horde money/products to be sure and pay taxes on things such as imports.

d. The area would be in control of its own currency. Money could be reinvested in the community which would allow for more capital improvements.

e. The area would be healthier in general. The health of those in the area would be better since they would not have to deal with the side effects of higher pollution due to quantity over quality issues.

4. Original inhabitants of the United States have been said to understand bioregionalism in a sense for several reasons. What are some of the reasons we can say this?

a. When you look at the areas that tribes had set up, they were in areas that were able to support them without much of a problem.
