It is my personal experience that if a youth or college student wants to drink, they are going to do so no matter what the "culture of alcohol" is. Peer pressure does play a large roll in freshman drinking. However most of those freshmen were thinking about it in the first place. If you really don't want to do something do you honestly think that some random frat boy walking up and saying do you want a beer is going to sway your thoughts on the subject, no. At least these were my views on the subject. Its possible, very possible that most people are not as hard headed as I am. But peer pressure has never been an issue with me and most likely never will be. On the other hand the article does shine some light on the subject when it starts talking about bars in the area. If I had to drive across charlotte to go to Boardwalks $2 you call it college nights. There is a very good chance that I would not be going. But its right there so its just so easy. If I wasn't a person that drank I would be like well they look like they are having fun. But obviously I would be someone who didn't drink so I would be quite capable of having fun without alcohol. And in point I really don't feel that peer pressure once again is as prominent of a problem with us youth that many adults make it out to be. Sure its there. But its easily overcome. And there is some truth to the article in another spot. I do agree that students drinking habits will be formed their first year. Especially if they are not drinkers. If they are ever to become people who drink on a regular basis it will be the first year of college where this is trait is sculpted. I know I had many friends
