What Culture Are You?
Picture yourself walking down the street and looking ahead to see a White young male walking towards youÐ'.....what are your first thoughts? First impressions are very important when deciding if you would want to be friends with this person or not. In this paper I'll be discussing the culture I'm associated with such as how it affects my being. Also, stereotypes that our culture faces will be analyzed. Last of all, I'll explain how the way my culture responds to those stereotypes as well as good ones.
I'm a 23 year old White male. I was raised by both my parents who gave me a wonderful childhood and still continues to play a part in my life. I went to a mostly white school that had graduating classes on average of about 65. I graduated high school and then was fortunate enough to have great parents that helped support me to earn a college education.
If you look at the White male population as a whole most might consider us to be the main people in charge. The reason I say this is because as of today there has never been a black president of The United States of America. Just recently the National Football League had its first African American coach make it to the Super Bowl. When you look at the football aspect of it many pictured the head coach as a white man such as Vince Lombardi the first to win a Super Bowl and have the Super Bowl trophy named after him. When you look at the business world you have Donald Trump and Bill Gates two of the wealthiest men in the world. Not everything is so great though because we also have people that think of us as being lazy. The reason I think people see us as being lazy is because we don't work as much as others. For example, someone else could be working more for the sole fact they need more money to support themselves and their families. Some cultures it is normal to work long 12-14 hour days.
I believe that the way we are looked upon by society helps us. I personally strive to work as hard as I can because someday I too would like to be living comfortably. Bill Gates and Donald Trump would never be where they are today without hard work. I
