Culture
Yahoo! Education Dictionary defines culture as: “The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought. These patterns, traits, and products considered as the expression of a particular period, class, community, or population.” This definition sums up to the behavior, attitude, beliefs, and characteristics of certain groups and organizations. I do not classify myself as part of one culture. My behavior, attitude, beliefs, and characteristics are part of many different cultures. Growing up in California has made it difficult to become part of only one culture because of the diversity surrounding me. My parents were pretty much the only form of resource I had from which I learned about Christianity. My entire household would have to attend church on Sunday mornings regardless of what we did Saturday night which has molded my belief in Christianity.
My Values
Society is built upon values and beliefs of what people feel are important. Values within the American culture can be quite different. My values and beliefs originated from my God fearing parents. Being raised, disciplined, and loved by my parents helped me to develop my personal value system. The one thing I value most in my life is my family! My family means the world to me and I value the whole family concept. My family is and has always been very close. We value the time we spend together and make sure we make the time for each other.
When I start to examine my personal values and think about how I developed them, I start to think about my childhood days. As I grew and developed, my mother would always share what she called little lessons of life that would help me through the years, from childhood to adulthood. These lessons involved values, such as trust, honesty, respect, integrity
