Survival in life is an everyday journey. the elements of survival rests along the strengths of the character. In the novels of "Jane Eyre", and the "Awakening," we discuss how the characters of Jane and Edna overcome these circumstances either by death or success. How did Jane's success happen, was it because of her strenmght of charcter or the way situations wrked out for her. Finally, was Edna's death because of her weakness or the power of circumstances.
Jane overcomes her problems, as a poor orphaned female, through her own courage, it helps her succeed over other women of her time. Jane talks to Georgiana, when Mrs. Reed comes to scold her for talking. "What would uncle Reed say to you, if he were alive?...My uncle Reed is up in heaven, and can see all you do and think; and so can papa and mama: they know how you shut me up all day, and how you wish me dead" . Jane's courage finally overcomes her fear of Mrs. Reed. Mrs. Reed is a god fearing woman, and when Jane informs her that God is watching, Mrs. Reed is fearful of her jealousy taking over, and more of these horrible activities taking place, such as locking Jane in the Red Room. Jane is successful ina way that at that time a woman of her day could not defy authority. A woman back then would have never disrespected a person of higher class. It was all riding on the social structure of society of that day and age. This goes to show you how Jane is developing as a character in this novel. She begins to grow and be strong. She is not the typical woman of her day.
Bieng restricted Jane's courage helps her face great odds, and it also has a lot to do wither meeting Rochester. The man who turns out tobe the love of her life. It helped her strength helped hetr formstrong relationship with people also. The relationship between Jane and Mr. Rochester is based on emotions and intensity throughout the book. She finds her own person and what she wants
