Introduction

Decision-Making is an important part of every organization. The following will reveal the results of making the right decision and working on a strategy to become successful. The assignment specifically required use of a model to a recent job-related decision; I have chosen the PLUS Decision Making Model. The PLUS Decision-Making Model offers a simple set of guidelines to make it easier for an individual employee, regardless of position or level, to be confident in his or her decision to meet all the standards for effective and a decision-making used by the organization. The guidelines offered by the PLUS model are sound, simple, straight-forward and easy to use and understand. What does PLUS represent? The Ethics Resource center (2006) identifies PLUS as a series of ethics filters as follows:

Ð'* P Ð'-Policies. It is consistent with my organization's policies, procedures and guidelines?

Ð'* L Ð'- Legal. Is it acceptable under the applicable laws and regulations?

Ð'* U Ð'- Universal. Does it conform to the universal principles/values my organization has adopted?

Ð'* S Ð'- Self. Does it satisfy my personal definition of right, good and fair?

What are the steps involved in making a decision using the PLUS model? The Ethics

People will do what they want to do unless motivated to do otherwise. Motivation can be improved quickly if the organization is willing to have strategies in place to help guide the employees and give them a clearer understanding of the organization as well as the managers' expectation. As with any organization the company expects greatness from its people thus the working environment must be one of positive reinforcement. The needs, expectation and aspirations of the employees are not openly expressed therefore; it is up to the employer to develop good communication, employee relations, and training in order to have teamwork and motivation.

Evaluate and Identify Alternatives

Decision-Making Model 4

My organization is under stress and is having serious motivation problems due to lack of communications with employees needs. Many employees are seeking other employment and this putting stress on other employees. This has left many lower managers including myself to think of ways to keep the employees happy and avoid retention problems.

Managers have the task of the following:

Ð'* Setting realistic work related goals

Ð'* Satisfying employees needs

Ð'* Positive reinforcement
