Henry should be diagnosed with Agoraphobia because he does not want to leave his apartment. He gets intense anxiety when leaving his house and being in intense crowds. This all is costing him friendships, job opportunities and relationships. Its impacting him in so many ways that it’s not going to be beneficial for him in the long run. I believe he has Agoraphobia because he has the fear of being out in the open or in public that’s where the intense anxiety comes from and has the fear of leaving his home. He struggles to go out in public and ride the metro, he goes out when there is the least bit amount of people. According to the DSM-5 there are many things that could fall into place with Henry’s diagnosis one of them would be the Criteria for Schizoid Personality Disorder. The reason behind it being is because this is categorized under the lack of desire for or enjoyment of close relationships and due to Henry’s intense anxiety to leave his house and due to that fear and anxiety he gets from leaving his house his relationship didn’t last. Another one is the DSM-5 Criteria for Avoidant Personality Disorder because Henry avoids significant interpersonal contact with others due to the fact he does not leave his house. I would also say DSM-5 Criteria for Dependent Personality Disorder because Henry not leaving his house and not wanting to interact with others because it requires leaving his house he can’t take care of himself. Lastly from the DSM-5 Criteria Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder because Henry experiences intense anxiety he feel as if he is dying so to him it all feels unreal and the symptoms are persistent and re-accuring when he has intense anxiety. Henry’s distress in life comes from his anxiety and the fact that he can only leave his house at night when there are less people on the streets. His impairment functioning is the fact that he can’t even get a job, hold a relationship or even take the metro to get to certain destinations and staying inside his house at all hours of the day.
