Define Marketing

Marketing defined is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational goals. (McGraw −Hill Companies, 2003 Marketing) Marketing today plays an important rule in the business world and in organizations today. Marketing requires a lot of skills and knowledge possessed to survive into today's economy. Marketing concept is to satisfy the customer's needs and wants. When most people hear the word marketing the first thing that they think of is advertising. That is just a small portion of what marketing is. The primary use of a promotion is the product or service must also be where the customer wants. Most people will not drive down a dirt road to have their car washed. The product has to be in a convenient location. Advertising is just a piece of marketing that is required to make the whole concept work. To be successful in marketing a product or service you must promote, sell, and distribute that product or service to the buyer's satisfaction.
A personal definition of marketing is advertising of a company, or promoting of a company organization. Marketing defined by another source says marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders. (McGraw −Hill Companies, 2005 Marketing p.8) A second source defines marketing as a social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtain what they need and want through creating and exchanging value with others.
