Description of Mary
Throughout the gospel of Matthew, the description of Mary is often talked about. Who she is, what she does, and where she is from are aspects brought to attention. Through her description, a person is able to see the great importance Mary has on the people. She is considered to be one of the most important woman to ever live.
Today we know Mary as several names, Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, the Wife of Joseph, the blessed virgin and many more. Who Mary is, is a women of many different labels. She is foremost known to many as the mother of Jesus. She gave birth to what is considered the most important birth in history; Jesus. Without Mary, everything that has happened may not have been possible, or the for that matter the same. Being "born of a woman" means that Jesus was also human. There is great questioning of whether or not Jesus was human because of all the miracles he took part in. It is known that only a human can bear the life of another human, and that is what Mary did. No other human serves as vital and direct link in the coming of Christ.
Mary is often referred to and known by many as "Virgin Mary." This was also always questioned to how she could be considered a virgin, when she beared herself a son. This is because, by miracle, Jesus was in her through the holy spirit. Being a virgin and giving birth to her child shows how pure Mary is.
Mary is also described as the wife of Joseph. In the beginning of the gospel of Matthew, they were at first not together and about to get a divorce, but when the angel came to Joseph and told him to stay with her, they will be having a son, he did as he was told.
What Mary does, are jobs that consist of many things. She takes part in Jesus' ministry and is a visionary leader of the early church movement. She helps to persuade and show the importance women held in the community. Women were not considered equal to men, but Mary helped to try and change this. She took part in the different jobs of the church to try and make a difference. She is one of Jesus' many followers and devotes her time and faith to his teachings and miracles.
