„X Equifinality
An example of equifinality in the movie ÐŽ§Down in the DeltaÐŽÐ, is when the mother gives her daughter a chance to get her self together. She is basically offering her a chance to get out of town and go stay with her uncle with her children. To get the daughter to do so, the mother pawns a family air loom and tells her if it means that much to her, sheÐŽ¦ll find a way to get it out. In this example the mother offers an
alternative solution; either go stay with her uncle down in the delta, or find job and get the familyÐŽ¦s heirloom out of the pawn shop. In this situation the mother could have easily given up on her daughter, because she has disappointed the family so much, but she chose to intervene and offer her assistance.
„X Differentiation
An example of differentiation in the movie is the mothers alcohol abuse situation. Her drinking becomes worse and worse throughout the beginning of the movie. She begins to first neglect her children, leaving them under her mothers supervision. She also is illiterate and incapable of caring for and nursing her own children. She begins stealing items from the house and selling them to support her habit. She even sold her own sonÐŽ¦s walkman that he gave her to listen to a positive thinking tape on her way to a job interview. After doing poorly at the interview, she becomes frustrated and reverts back to the streets and alcohol as her comfort. This is an example of a situation becoming more complex over time.
