Research Objectives
The objectives of the research are the following:
- To identify the difficulties of Grade 7 students when it comes to speaking in English.
- To know the reasons why the Grade 7 students encounter those difficulties.
- To suggest the best ways to do in able to surmount those difficulties.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the difficulties of Grade 7 students of Langkaan II National Highschool in terms of English speaking.
Specifically, this study will answer the following questions:
1. What are the difficulties of grade 7 students when it comes to speaking English?
2. What are the reasons of the respondents why they encounter those difficulties?
3. What are the best ways to do in able to surmount those difficulties?
Significance of the Study
Since learning the English language is a very complicated subject to some students, the researchers conducted this study that would benefit mostly the students of Langkaan II National High school, especially and also the teachers and parents of the participants. The study would provide adequate information that will be helpful for the students that were facing difficulties in speaking English. This study would help the students to be more efficient in English speaking thus benefits teachers also. Their hassle in teaching English to the students will be lessening as far as possible and as expected. The researchers believe that the study would have a contribution to the learning development in English speaking of the beneficiaries.
Duration
The study was started on December 2016 and finished on March 2017. With all the honor and gratitude to the people who helped us finish this paper.
Scope and Limitations
The research was conducted to determine the difficulties in speaking English of the grade 7 students of Langkaan National Highschool as recognized by the students of the school year 2016 – 2017. The researchers will conduct a survey to the selected students in the grade 7 year level that will help identify the difficulties of the participants in speaking English. The survey will itemize only the difficulties and not the suggested solutions.
Definition of Terms
Anxiousness- attended with or showing nervousness or uneasiness.
Accent- is a distinctive mode of pronunciation of a language, especially one associated with a particular nation, locality, or social class.
Beneficiaries- are persons who derive advantage from something.
Communicate- the imparting or exchanging of information or news; means of connection between people or places, in particular.
Confidence- is a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities.
Difficulty- is a thing that is hard to accomplish, deal with, or understand.
English- is a West Germanic language that was first spoken in early medieval England.
Frequency- is the number of times an event occurs.
Impediment- is a hindrance or obstruction in doing something.
Indicator- is a thing, especially a trend or fact, which indicates the state or level of something.
Lack- is the state of being without or not having enough of something.
Language- the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way.
Learning- is the act of acquiring new, or modifying and reinforcing existing, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences which may lead to a potential change in synthesizing information, depth of the knowledge, attitude or behavior relative to the type and range of experience.
Lingua franca- is a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different.
Literature- is written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit.
Millennial- is a person reaching young adulthood in the early 21st century.
Mother-tongue- is the language that a person has grown up speaking from early childhood.
Percentage- is a rate, number, or amount in each hundred.
Respondent- is a person who replies to something, especially one supplying information for a survey or questionnaire or responding to an advertisement.
Surmount- overcome a difficulty or obstacle.
Treatise- a formal and systematic exposition in writing of the principles of a subject, generally longer and more detailed than an essay.
