Disease Politics

The video "Disease Politics" was about how much the government spends to fund lobbies for the research of diseases. Charity helps out a lot with the money collected to help fund these research lobbies but the money collected only reaches low million dollar marks. The government, however; gives out billions of dollars a year to research lobbies. The National Institute of Health decides how much money the government spends and how they divvy it up between lobbies. Lobbies which are quiet and keep to themselves such as diabetes, and heart disease don't get as much money as the politically correct lobbies such as aids and cancer when more people are affected by diabetes than aids and cancer combined. Congressmen say that the more star power a lobby has the more influence the NIH, National Institute of Health, has to spend money on those causes. If lobbies could have more money than they could easily find cures for these diseases but the money spent is limited so lobbies fight between one another to get the governments money. In many cases economics decides who lives and who dies.

If I could control how much money was spent it would be from how many people are affected by the disease instead of how many people complain about it. I understand the aids, cancer, and heart disease are very serious and my family members who have suffered from cancer and heart disease didn't deserve to dye that way. I also have friends who suffer from diabetes and despite my emotions for family and friends I believe diabetes is affecting more people so we need to spend more on those people first. If we can find a cure for diabetes the government and health insurance can save the money they spend for insulin shots, and blood reader and put it towards the next cause and sooner or later they will all be gone.

When President Clinton was attacked verbally by an aids lobby member he said this year I have given you more money that heart disease and cancer. I'm sorry but I don't feel like that is a good thing to do. Disease research is surrounded by politics and it is not fare for those who complain and protest the most to get more money when
