A relationship is a connection between people who have mutual dealings with one another. Since most people spend more time at their places of employment than they do at their homes, they are bound to form relationships with their coworkers. So, what kinds of relationships are healthy and conducive for the workplace, and what kinds are not? A healthy business relationship is one based on trust and dynamics. The organizations that promote dynamic relationships at work and atmospheres in which employees are expected to support one another are going to be the most pleasant and successful organizations. This idea starts at the top of the organization and is carried downward. “Quality relationships are what produce quality products and services. Real productivity begins with employees who are nourished by caring, encouraging coworkers and supervisors. It’s an atmosphere where personal creativity can flourish” (Joe Love, 2005, p. 1).
What should an organization do when relationships become unhealthy and affect the business environment? Using critical thinking and problem solving skills, this paper will address the problems that occur in the workplace when unhealthy relationships form and sexual misconduct allegations surface.
Healthy As Compared To Unhealthy Relationships
Managers and supervisors have the ultimate responsibility to make sure that they are taking the necessary steps to promote a positive environment for their employees so that the growth of their employees is inevitable. A manager should be trusted, respected, and capable of being fair and unbiased, especially when it comes to their relationships with their employees. Intimate or sexual relationships between managers and their employees are usually looked down upon in the workplace.
