DIVISION SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE 2014
A three day activity was launched by the Department of Education, Cebu Province, titled DSPC 2014, with the theme: “Empowering Resilient Communities through Campus Journalism.” This certain activity was held on November 12-14, 2014 at Dalaguete National High School, Dalaguete, Cebu. The activity was participated by different schools from different areas.
During the first day, a mass was held at San Guillermo Church. It was then followed by the parade of student writers, school paper advisers and coaches, together with Dalaguete’s Drum and Lyre Corps. After the parade, they all proceed to Dalaguete Sports Complex to start the opening program.
The opening program started at 8 o’clock in the morning. First, is the singing of the Philippine National Anthem conducted by Mrs. Sonia Z. Legaspi. It was followed by the invocation, by Mrs. Maria Socorro N. Relacion. Hon. Ronald Allan G. Cesanto, CPA, their municipal mayor, delivered his inspirational message. Then, a welcome message was delivered by Mr. Luis C. Carin, principal of Dalaguete NHS. Next, was the rationale by Dr. Mary Ann P. Flores, ES I-English Secondary. Then, it was followed by the presentation of participants by Mrs. Evelyn F. Balang, ES I-English Elementary.
The selected students of DNHS lend a dance number to energize the participants. Afterwards, Mrs. Gresilda D. Bustamante, Principal, Dalaguete CES introduced the keynote speaker: Mr. Wagas, in behalf of Dr. Arden D. Monisit, Schools Division Superintendent. After his speech, follows the raising of the Division Banner and Area Banners. Then, the student journalists delivered the Journalist’s Creed lead by Ms. Gwen Tagimacruz, Editor in Chief of Southern Gazette Publication. The last part of the opening program is the formal delaration of the opening of DSPC 2014, by Mrs. Evelyn F. Balang. The opening program ended successfully and the competitions were started.
After three days, the awarding and closing program has come. It started by the singing of the Philippine Nat’l Anthem, followed by the invocation and finally, the awarding ceremony. Ms. Sherly Caminade, a news writer in Filipino, won 5th place in news writing. The awarding ceremony ended up by the words of gratitude from Mr. Luis C. Carin. It was a remarkable event in a student writers’ life.
SOUTHEAST AREA SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE 2014
A journalist should write what he holds in his heart to be true, and in order to express what the journalists feel, last October 20-22, 2014, the Southeast Area Schools Press Conference with the theme “Empowering Campus Journalists for Disaster Preparedness” in Minglanilla Central School and in Minglanilla National Science High School is held.
