Don’t Forget About The Unforgotten
“Don’t send me flowers when I’m dead. If you like me, send them while i’m alive.” -Brian Clough. This quote reflects how Doodle’s brother doesn’t know how lucky he was until Doodle passed away. Doodle has disabilities that prevents him to meet all his older brother’s expectations, but later on Doodle’s brother helps him overcome theses disabilities and strengthens their relationship.In this short story, Scarlet Ibis, by James Hurst, the author, shows how Doodle’s brother advances the plot by teaching Doodle new things and their brotherly relationship.
Doodle’s brother advances the plot by teaching doodle new things he couldn't before.Doodle’s brother teaches him how to swim,walk,and run.”I can’t walk brother, he said.Who says so? I demanded. Mama, the doctor-everybody.”(Hurst 589) This quote shows that he believed in Doodle when no one else did.Doodle accomplished the unbelievable.Without Doodle’s brother being there and having sympathy for him, there wouldn’t be any rise in this story.Doodle’s sixth birthday.. He walked across the room and sat down at his place on the table, mama began to cry.”(Hurst 599.) This quote is an important scene because Doodle was born with disabilities like being physically and mentally fragile. When Mama cries you can tell this is a very important scene because no one really expects much from a boy like doodle. Meanwhile Doodle’s brother makes this choice, we can see that he doesn’t give up easily and he’s very determined to strive for doodle to be able to do the most.
Doodle’s brother advances the plot by having a bipolar relationship with Doodle.”Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of having a crippled brother.” (Hurst 599.) This reveals Doodle’s brother true feelings for Doodle. The whole time everyone thought that Doodle’s brother actually cared for him and wanted him to walk
