First of all we read an extract on bedlam, it was written by Ned Ward in 1701 the extract was written by a visitor to bedlam, in this he describes different characters which were in the hospital this extract was written in a diary type style so is therefore from his point of view. He describes different actions, movements and speech of several characters. The class gave these characters different names: prince of the air, high treason guy, the witch, conscience guy, bread and cheese man. Ned feels that bedlam is a place for the scum of human society and the people inside bedlam should not be exposed to the outside world, he shows that it is a place for the world to be ashamed.
