Dress Code

Is what I’m wearing appropriate for school?

Should school uniforms be a necessity? Well if you’re like most high school students, the thought of even being in a school uniform makes you want to cringe with irritation. You may not like the school telling you what kind of clothes to wear, what color it has to be, or even telling you that you can’t wear jeans or in ours case leggings. I know we all enjoy showing our individuality, with our choice of clothing, but it takes a bit of energy just trying to decide what to wear to school every day. I, on many occasions, have thought that wearing a school uniform wouldn’t be too bad. To not have to get up in the morning and try to pick out an outfit. It sounds so nice but when it comes down to it I don’t agree with it. School uniforms I feel are just not needed, I feel that every student has a right to wear their own clothes and to express themselves through them. I know, I know that there are many other ways that students can express themselves with than just their clothes but some of those things most students are interested in and the only way than express themselves is their clothes.

In my opinion not having to wear uniforms and having the privilege to wear our own clothes is an amazing privilege. Most schools, for example private schools and charter schools, have to wear them. And honestly I feel bad for them. Why do I feel bad for them? Well one they have to wear the same thing every day and not be able to wear their regular clothes. Secondly they have to wash that one set of clothing every night so they can wear them the next, without stinking. Lastly they don’t get very many days where they can wear regular clothes. But just because we’re allowed to wear our regular clothes and not have to wear uniforms, we shouldn’t take that advantage of it and choose wear regular clothing.

When you’re getting up in the morning and choosing an outfit, layout it after choosing it, and ask yourself these questions, would you wear it in front of your grandma, and would your grandma approve of what your wearing? If not, then what I would do is change the outfit and choose one that would fit the dress code
