Dress and Appearance: The Social Norm
Have you ever thought about going to the mall or even grocery shopping all dressed up like you're going to prom or homecoming? Some people might look at you like your crazy or they may talk about you and say you're weird, but thats not something you can get in trouble for because it is a social norm. I know you're probably wondering what a social norm is, well a social norm is shared rules of conduct that tell people how to act in certain situation. which means you wouldnt go grocery shopping dressed for porn not because its illegal or anything but because it doesn't make any sense. Most people would want to go grocery shopping in jogging pants or some jeans and a tee shirt but not a prom dress people would look at you crazy. To prove my point i teseted it. I went to the mall dressed for homcoming with my dress, heels, and makeup. The social norm i broke is wearing a prom or homcoming dress to the mall or to go shopping. Most people prefer to be relaxed while their shopping at the mall and not dressed up like there going to prom. I will be breaking the norm folkway. This norm falls under the Dress and Appearance asecpt of culture. As i said before i will be going to the mall to break this social norm. I expext people to look at me like im weird and surprised and i expexcted them to talk about me. I will break the norm about 10 times, the population will be diverse with teens and adults of all ages. I will use experimental research method for my project. Well i did the activity alone so
