Throughout the history of animal raising, duck is one of important part of human consumption from its egg and meat. Ducks are second in the chicken as staple source of poultry product in other countries particularly in the neighboring South East Asian countries.
In the Philippines, being an agricultural country has its annual per capita consumption of 2-3 kilogram. Second to rice production, the poultry industry also contributes to the Philippine agriculture despite standing alone with no subsidy from the government.
Raising ducks is a newly popular enterprise in the Philippines because there is a multiplying backyard producers which dominate the duck industry and healthy viable commercial sector. Even with the crises facing the duck industry such as the spread of bird flu, fowl cholera and lack of nutrient requirement established for ducks, still many people are venturing in this kind of agricultural enterprise.
Meat type ducks grow slower compared to broiler chicken. They grow about forty grams at birth to market weight of about 2.5-3.5 kg in two to three months depends on feeding program. They can be sold alive at a livestock market or perhaps processed into meat for home use at a local livestock slaughtering facility. The most important products from ducks include egg, meat, and roasters.

Section 2.2 the Business
The Christian’s duck farm knows that poultry meat is one of the main meat produced and consumed in the Philippines today. Poultry meat is like its plant counterpart, the rice which is the most staple food among Filipinos. The farm is in to providing customers with poultry meat or the duck meat that has high quality with an affordable price. Although the farm has many commercial competitors in the demand of poultry meat, the company takes a risk to promote high quality meat in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. The farm has preferred duck meat over pork for economic and aesthetic reasons; the duck is easy to feed and is not merely used for labor. The colors of the meat is more appetizing, while the taste and smell are described as sweeter and cleaner. It is also considered easier to digest. Most likely in rural provinces, “lechon” (roasted) is a popular tradition share to celebrate important occasion and to form bonding.
