Purposes of Education

In my opinion, there are more than three important purposes of education or reasons to attend school. I believe that the possibilities for education and desiring an education are endless. I am looking at this assignment from three different angles: one as a future teacher, one as a future parent(or behalf of parents), and lastly as a student myself.

The utmost important and most significant reason for education, in my opinion, is for people to learn. Learning doesn't necessarily have to mean learning topics that children aren't interested in, but to provide an education to the learn the basics and stem from that. Students should have the opportunity to learn about themselves, about their peers, other cultures, the world and anything else they can and want to absorb. Learning is something I do everyday. It doesn't have to be a life lesson, it may just be how to copy and paste something in a document, but it's still valuable in the long run.

Another purpose of education is for students to express themselves. There are so many subjects and interdisciplinary lessons for each individual to shine in their best element. I think it is important for a student to be able to be good at something and be able to utilize that skill. It is important for children to read and write creatively, to take an art class, to do science experiments and solve math problems and attempt another language. Without an education at their fingertips, they would be lost, things would not have meaning and life could be boring. Expression is extremely critical in my opinion in education.

The last thing I will discuss as a purpose for education will be social interaction. Working together in a classroom, being subjected to peers at lunch, in the gym, at recess, in the halls and even in a study hall are all imperative to the development of a child. Children need
