Education has always been a great factor in determining human survival and success. Whether it is learning to live in a harsh environment or learning to manage a company, education is and always will be incredibly significant. Education is so important in modern society that a system of grades has been developed to evaluate students of all ages and levels. There are many positive outcomes that result from the current grading system.

Grading should not stop. Schools should use more than just testing as their form of instruction. Even though grades can cause students to do negative things such as cheating and plagiarizing that shouldn’t cause grades to vanish. I believe that grading is a necessary process for a student's success. To abolish grading and rely solely on testing would place students at risk for failing by placing them in a pressured atmosphere, breaking the link of understanding between the student and the teacher, and reducing the student's options to cheating. When a test is given, there are certain rules and restrictions that a student must follow. These rules and restrictions are supposed to help direct the student's focus to the test, but they actually do the opposite. They create a tense environment which, in turn, makes the student uncomfortable.

Grades have become a big part of our lives as students. People need grading systems from the beginning of their first years at school to their graduation date. The grading system encourages us to study more and to have better grades. The grade report system is a clear-cut method of reporting student achievement in a well-defined grading system. Some of the more general strengths in the traditional letter grade system are how easily the grades are averaged and the fact that this method provides useful information in the prediction of future achievement of a student.

Abolishing grading will cause an increase in high school drop out rates.
