Effective communication is an essential tool in a health care organization. There are many effective ways to share information in an organization. The organization structure that Peoples Health uses is a functional structure. In a function, structure employees have the same skills and perform a specific task. Relationships and communication channels adhere to a diverse organization (Lombardi, Schermerhorn, and Kramer 2007)
Each department is responsible for sharing information with other departments within the organization, Peoples Health has multiple departments. Claims, Network Development, Provider Relations, Member Services, Sales, and Marketing are just a few.
All departments are critical to one another. If a provider name is not listed into the database, the IT department will be blame. That information is greatly needed. It can cause a claim to denied.
Peoples Health has several techniques that effective when sharing information. Peoples Health has outside quarterly meetings. Theses meetings are very crucial to the organizations. Employees are given imperative information regarding new Medicare guidelines, upcoming events, budget cuts, termination of providers. Department meetings are given twice a month.
The manager will discuss productivity, ways on improving customer satisfaction, availability, polices, and procedures to abide by. Managers tend to shy away from have meetings, because they do not want to be bombarded with questions.
Teams are also an effective way to communicate. We have several teams within our department. Each team has a team leader and wee discuss ways of improving accurate information to our customer. Teams have better results with resolving problems that the client may have. Teams communicate on a daily basis. Communication must be relevant and focus (Gosslein, 2012).
Face-to-face communication is the most effective form for most people. When someone talks to us, we deliver a flow of responses back to them. The sender has the ability to change the message disseminated by the talker.
Everyone in the organization is accountable for his or her effectiveness in communication. The most common effective technique is listening. Listen to what is being said and absorb the information before speaking.
Ineffective communication is poor communication. It sends unclear message, message overload, and jargon. The sender must be clear that the receiver receive the message clearly. Internal barriers are another form of ineffective techniques. There is a difference of culture level. The receiver may have a different thought process of the sender.
Technology has become one of the best techniques to share information. E-mails such as Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail are some popular companies. Peoples Health use massive emails to share information regarding providers, Medicare, and vendor within the organizations. E-mails are helpful but it can
